Mental Health & Wellbeing

We believe maintaining and enhancing the wellbeing of all pupils is a key factor to ensuring children can develop and reach their full potential. Wellbeing refers to the quality of people's lives. At school that means all adults work hard to make sure children feel happy, safe, healthy and comfortable in their environment.

At The Carlton Infant Academy we have a member of staff trained as ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) who deliver high quality emotional literacy support to some children. ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists, who apply their professional knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to areas of need experienced by pupils. They provide on-going professional supervision to help maintain high quality in the work undertaken by ELSAs, thereby helping to ensure safe practice for ELSAs and pupils alike.

We support pupils’ mental health and wellbeing through a range of interventions such as sunshine group, lego therapy, ELSA and nurture principles.

Mrs Clarke is our SENDCo and Mental Health Lead at The Carlton Infant Academy.

We engage with a number of external agencies to ensure that the appropriate support is put in place for our pupils following a graduated response. These include;
