Music

Music is a joyful and essential part of our curriculum, offering every child the opportunity to express themselves creatively, develop confidence, and experience the power of music to bring people together. We believe that music enriches learning, supports emotional wellbeing, and helps children to develop a wide range of skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Our Music curriculum introduces children to the key elements of music- such as rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics- through singing, playing instruments, listening, and composing. Pupils explore a variety of musical styles, genres, and traditions from around the world, helping them to appreciate the diversity and richness of musical expression.

We track the knowledge and skills taught in Music through our Key Knowledge Progression Documents (KKPDs). These documents ensure that we plan for the specific musical knowledge required in each year group and that our curriculum is carefully sequenced. This allows children to build on prior learning, develop their musical vocabulary, and grow in confidence as performers and listeners.

Children have regular opportunities to sing together, perform for others, and take part in musical celebrations and events. Whether through classroom activities, assemblies, or special performances, music plays a central role in school life and helps to foster a strong sense of community and joy.

Our aim is to inspire every child to find their voice through music, to enjoy making and listening to music, and to develop a lifelong appreciation for the art of sound.
