At The Carlton Infant Academy, we are committed to providing every child with the strongest possible foundation for their educational journey. Our Early Years Foundation Stage lies at the heart of our school, reflecting our commitment to nurturing confident, curious, and independent learners.

We provide a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 5 years, where learning is rooted in play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. Our carefully designed EYFS curriculum supports holistic development across all areas of learning, laying strong foundations for future success. Our passionate and experienced team ensures that every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to thrive. We recognise the EYFS as a crucial stage in a child’s education - one that fosters a lifelong love of learning and discovery.

Our Curriculum

At The Carlton Infant Academy, we implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to support the development of children from birth to five years. Our curriculum is built on a foundation of high-quality texts and enquiry-based questions, enabling children to explore and make sense of the world around them. We follow a play-based, child-led approach, designed to develop curiosity, independence, and confidence across all seven areas of learning and development. Our experienced teachers deliver a responsive curriculum, planning activities that reflect each child’s individual interests, developmental stage, and learning needs. This helps our children work towards the Early Learning Goals, which define the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding expected by the end of the Reception year.

Our Provision

At The Carlton Infant Academy, our EYFS provision comprises two pre-school classes collectively known as Crystals, which include our 2-year-old provision (Crystals 1) and our Nursery class (Crystals 2). We also have two Reception classes, Diamonds 1 and Diamonds 2. Miss Martin, our EYFS Lead, teaches in Reception alongside Miss Shaw, who also serves as Assistant Head. Mrs Coulson is the Nursery teacher and has oversight of both Crystals classes. Our EYFS unit is further supported by a team of dedicated practitioners who contribute to the high-quality teaching and learning experiences across all EYFS settings.
